Once again this year, Hamburg played host to the autumn highlight in the ERGO sports calendar: the ERGO sports Games. On 11 October, around 80 competitors gathered at the ERGO site in City Nord for a unique event, where the home team lifted the trophy.

In addition to the defending champions from Cologne, teams from Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Nuremberg joined the line-up this year. Also taking part were the Allstars, a team made up of colleagues from MunichRe, MEAG and the ERGO locations in Mannheim and Hamburg, spanning almost every age group and business area—from casual sports enthusiasts to seasoned veterans.

With its excellent sports facilities and ideal setting, the Hamburg location provided the perfect backdrop for the tournament, where the sporting competition was only part of the experience. Everyone agreed that just as important was the opportunity to meet in a relaxed atmosphere, strengthen existing friendships or forge new ones across locations, and simply enjoy spending time together.

ERGO sports Games build bridges

This is also how Tanja Siemer, who organised the event for ERGO sports together with Insa Knust and Mandy Surmann, puts it like this:

It was a homecoming for everyone who took part. The ERGO sports Games build bridges, bringing together colleagues from all over Germany and giving them a rare opportunity to connect outside the daily work routine. A special thanks go to our volunteer and the Hamburg building management team, whose dedication made the event possible in the first place.

Something for Everyone

The rules of the ERGO sports Games are straightforward: each participant takes part in two sports from two different sessions, earning points for their team. The team with the highest total wins. This year's programme featured seven disciplines: floorball, bowling, 3x3 basketball, darts, spikeball and an agility course that tested not only strength and endurance, but also knowledge and skill knowledge – with estimation questions, a throwing game, an XXL Jenga tower, Hitster and a balance board. The event concluded with a relay race in the nearby city park, where the Hamburg team secured overall victory, repeating their success from two years ago. Last year's champion Cologne finished second, with Düsseldorf taking bronze.

Team spirit Was Alive and Celebrated with Style

Everyone agreed that the victory truly belonged to the ERGO team across all locations. The celebrations continued on Saturday evening with a lively Players’ Night. . A DJ provided the entertainment and a huge disco ball transformed the conference hall in the ERGO building in Hamburg into a party to remember, rarely seen more than once a year at most.
